I looked up spectra to check if it was the same as spectron and the page included a warning on the dangers of whiplash. It made no suggestion that spectra reduced (or increased) these dangers.

I thought that the danger of whiplash depended on the amount of energy that was stored in the rope before it was released (by cutting, failing or just unhitching). That depends on the elasticity, the hysteresis in the rope (that is, the amount of energy it absorbs when deformed and released- the higher the hysteresis, the less energy it will return) and the mass. If Spectron is really very light, then that greatly reduces the potential danger of whiplash. I guess that's the main safety feature?
