According to a news release on the Scottish Executive website, a collection of historical documents known as the Dalhousie Papers has been saved for the nation. They include Historia Norvegiae, which contains the easrliest account of the Norse settlement of Orkney and reports a myth that the Picts built towns morning and evening but hid in underground chambers at midday.
They also include papers about the ill-fated Scottish expedition to Darien, somewhat later than that of Cortes.
