Talking today to somebody who had been in the theatre world, apparently whistling is forbidden there too. It seems that once theatre scenery people were recruited from old sailors.

Also it is unlucky to wear green in the theatre, just as it is generally considered unlucky to paint a ship green. I'm surprised that AR painted the Wild Cat green - and of course she was unlucky in the end (ML)

However, to digress, our steam herring drifter Lydia Eva is green (as was the custom in Gorleston where her owner lived) and as she is the very last of her kind she doesn't seem to have been particularly unlucky. At the moment the green paint is being pressure blasted away so that we can rebuild her hull, but the green will be back by next year. (This is, of course relevant to AR since they saw fishing vessels in both Yarmouth and Lowestoft in CC)
