No copy of either of the Broads books I have read over the years has ever shown the location of the Roaring Donkey or its dyke on its end-paper map (don't ask me how that happened,) and I had always assumed that the pub was in a location known specifically only to AR himself. A study of the text gives a pretty good idea of the general location though, and this is where I showed it on my tentative map (and pointed out rather grandly on 23 March in response to Terence's question about it.)

John has now very kindly scanned for me the end-paper map from his 1952 ed of "The Big Six," clearly showing the Roaring Donkey's dyke east of Kendal Dyke -- whereas I had calculated it from reading the text as being west of it.

Clearly I will need to read the book again to see if the text's description agrees with the map. I suppose it's just possible that it doesn't, in which case the text would prevail -- and in which case also we might have the explanation as to why the RD's location was dropped from the maps in later editions.

Stay tuned for the next exciting episode....
