There is a picture of AR's Swallow in Roger Wardale's "In search of the Swallows and Amazons" showing her painted white or a very pale colour with a dark top strake.

Pictures in SA and SD look very similar to this photograph, but with the top strake less pronounced. And when she is returned after the shipwreck it is in "such a glory of new paint..."

But paint would be easy to apply. What matters is that the dinghy in the film LOOKS right and doesn't seem to have a centreplate. If we could only find her - and the Amazon of the film - then we really would have icons which enthusiasts could enjoy sailing.

Incidentally for the race at the end of SD Swallow would have had a newly painted bottom and would have dried out whereas presumably Amazon would have been in the water for several weeks. So Amazon supporters could claim that she didn't have a fair chance.
