Pam - that sounds great. Here in NZ we have the Queen's chain which gives right of access to all foreshore and waterways a chain from high tide(I think). We most certainly don't have private beaches in any form although access through land can be restricted or forbidden. If you have a boat you can land on any beach as long as you stay on the beach. The usual rules on damage and trespass apply though. A number of foreign owners have tried to negate this rule and close off areas, but not for long.
