In addition to their various other illegal activities, perhaps we
need to consider the derelection of duty on the part of the Dutch
officials who accepted into their port an alien ship, under the
command of a mere child who hardly qualifies to have the proper
certification to captain a ship to international ports of call.
Consider also that these authorities did not seem to be bothered
by the fact these recent arrivals from England did not have any
passports. These authorities did not seem to be concerned that
the ship they sailed was not even theirs. No attempt seemed to
be made to establish any contact with the legal owner to verify
their somewhat fantastic story of how they came to cross the
North Sea. It was a case of apparently a stolen ship operated by
illegal immegrants. On top of all this apparent thumbing of the
nose regarding proper procedures, they allowed this band of
juveniles to escape with their stolen ship.

But in spite of the portrayal of all this illegal activity, if
ever another of the Ransome stories should be made into a feature
length movie, I would vote for WDMTGTS as being a great choice.
It is the kind of story that any age would thrill to see on the
screen, regardless of whether they had ever heard of Ransome of
of any of his other stories.
