It was that wasy for me too, Prue. I was taught to row when I was 4. We had a cottage on a small lake in the lake country of northern Wisconsin, and there was an inviting looking island with tall pine trees where one could camp. Sadly, I wasn't allowed to, but I finally went back there and did it in the late 1980's. And then I used my candle lanterns as leading lights to find my way back through the reeds after viewing the stars from the lake at night.

So years before I found Arthur Ransome, I too had a lake and an island in the north. I have loved boats and lakes and islands ever since!
