Many of the advantages of a hire vessel (someone else pays for upkeep, crew and all) with limited disadvantages (less flexibility in your cruise planning) compared to either outright ownership or rental.
I've tried both and am in no doubt which I prefer. You don't have to PAY for upkeep, you don't have to HAVE a crew - you do it yourself, with your family and friends, and that is an integral part of the joy of ownership.
