I am not so sure about the vast distance of the flagpole, Jenny.
If you look at the detailed map in PM in the "Secondhand News" chapter, it would appear the the flagpole is about the width of the lawn away from the edge of the Beckfoot lawn.
I suspect that in the endpaper maps, AR may have drawn the flagpole further away to physically separate it on the mapping representation.
