I agree. When I first read the books, way back when, I didn't like it very much; as a eight year old I loved Swallowdale best of all, then SA... And Peter Duck... But as the years took their toll (I like to think that they refined, defined and burnished my character, but we all have our fantasies) I found myself attracted most to WH, and then imperceptibly tipping towards PM. I think it has some of AR's best writing. The rainy day at the Dog's Home is quite magical. So is the very beginning as the Ds settle down to sleep at Beckfoot. Poetry. I've read that so many times...
