As one of the three recipients (the youngest 48) of a weekly "Dear Kids" letter from my mother, I certainly don't consider "kids" as a negative term. These started back in '70, when my parents packed the second one of us off to college, and continue uninterrupted, typed on paper with a manual typewriter, today. She's moved on from the old Underwood and now uses the matching typewriters the elder of my two sisters and I took to college, the rest of the family having progressed to computers and e-mail. I had the typewriters overhauled for her Christmas present in 2005 and she's now set for another 40-45 years of writing to the kids.
