I suppose I'm just exploring the arguments around whether we as AR enthusiasts should treat his work as sacred texts, never to be tampered with, or encourage those who wish to use them as springboards for their own creative efforts. On the whole, I'm for gritting my teeth, giving them the nod but not holding back in pointing out the difference between a belly flop and a swallow dive.
My mind boggles, however at a Britten S&A Opera, would we see Capt Flint as a Peter Grimes figure? Would any survive the wreck at Pike Rock? Come on Peter, lets see an outline treatment!
