I recall a story set in the Lakes which involved a lease on a farm or property that had to be renewed. It required some important document(?) which was missing and the only clue said that it was hidden where a cross could be seen on some night when they lit beacons. It turned out to be a location where the cross was formed from three fires and the reflection of the top one in the lake. I have no idea who wrote the book and anything else about it. Does it ring a bell with anyone?
