Thanks to Tarboardistas for their detective work. I did a goggle search but to no avail. The book was good but I'm afraid the only other memory I can recall is visual, that it looked like an AR book (green cover Jonathon Cape?) It certainly wasn't by Enid Blyton, I had a very superior attitude to her, nor by Malcolm Saville (I liked him but considered him a cut or two below AR). I remember the title "No Boats on Bannermere" and Geoffrey Trease but no details, although I imagine a Christian burial would be orientated W-E
