From reading the report of the Beeb's website it does not sound quite the catastrophe that it might have been. The main task at hand has been to replace the rusted iron frames of the hull before the ship loses its shape. To get at these, the interior of the hull had to be removed, along with the deck and 50% of the planking. Obviously, all the masts and spars had been removed long ago. The Beeb's report said that a small part of the remaining planking had been damaged, but that replacing it was not an insurmountable problem.
The owners of the 'Eda Frandsen' had had a much worse problem to contend with, and they completed the boat. I have no doubt that 'Cutty Sark' will weather this storm too.
David.
