Best Ransome Books

I've just been reading as many of the AR books as I can find to my (American) son. It's been years since I read them as a child growing up in England. I find it interesting that the books I enjoyed most then still work best for him.

Swallows and Amazons is, of course, wonderful, but my all-time favorites were and still are Winter Holiday and We Didn't Mean to Go to Sea. They are truly magical. My son enjoyed Pigeon Post and Swallowdale (although he is puzzled by the Great Aunt -- he has never experienced starchy old ladies!).

We are currently reading Secret Water which I had forgotten and no wonder! The Swallows, especially John and Titty, turn into such prigs. It is quite a disappointment.

We have also read Coot Club and Great Northern, but have not attempted Peter Duck or Missee Lee.

Only some of the books are in print here in the States. Are the Big Six, Picts and the Martyrs, and Missee Lee still in print in the UK? How could I find copies?

I love your Web Page. Many thanks.
