AHOY!

There will be an exhibition of AR in a children's bookshop in the heart of central Tokyo, starting next Saturday, 2nd June.

This is to commemorate the 40th anniversary of publication of the Japanese translation of the 12 books, and also after the death of AR; and though not officially disclosed, 20th anniversary since the Arthur Ransome Club, Japan, was founded.

There will be 47 photographs from AR's Lakelands and other regions of England with each accompanying illustration and reference to the stories; introductions and maps showing AR stories; a portrait of AR that has rarely been published so far; AR-related tools such as a compass, a replica of sextant, and last but not least... something that is very exclusive and important in AR stories!

The exhibition is held for 16 days including three weekends. The second day, 3rd June, falls on the 40th anniversary after the date AR passed away. Moreover, on the second Sunday, 10th June, there will be a lecture by Dr Teruo Jingu, who first introduced the stories to Japanese readers by translating them.

Those who have read the winter 2003 issue of MM might be able to guess from an article, how special it is for AR readers in Japan to have a glimpse of AR's Lakelands.

All of us who prepared this are very proud of the exhibition, hoping, this could help as many young people today as possible to set sails on to the new world of joy of reading.

Anyone from TARS, who happens to be around Tokyo from 2nd to 17th June, will be very much welcomed. For assistance or further details, please contact by mail to the address above (please use appropriate symbols for "at" and "dot" - this is to avoid spams to addresses found through the Internet).

I hope next year will be a very memorable year as the 20th anniversary of TARS as well.
