In Picts and Martyrs, Nancy had to get the study window open before the night of the burglary so Dick could get in. That window was very difficult to open, and could not be opened without consideral noise. Dick found that out when he was trapped inside the study and had to get that window back open, which he did but with quite a bang that alarmed the entire house.
The oddity about all this is - when did Nancy manage to get that sticky window open in preparation for the burglary, without making such a noise that the G.A. would be sure to want to know what all that was about? If the G.A. was asleep, the noise would have awakened her. If she were anywhere in the house, surely that noise would have gotten her attention.
Just a trivia detail perhaps...
But we could discuss the Beckfoot plumbing instead, of course.
