OK, lets make an on-line parlour game out of this. People educated in the UK (& maybe Canada & the Antipodes?) aren't allowed to play, because they'll get it straight away. I'll give you a clue below. Then, if no joy, I'll give you a very brief synopsis of the plot. If still not discovered, I'll say something about the style, and by that time, if you haven't got the answer, then I'll "eat my shorts". (I'll leave it to an American to explain that allusion to the older English people)

The island in this book could have been lifted straight from 'Crab Island' to which it is topologically very similar, though in the Pacific & not the Caribees. The children concerned got there in a way that was about as unlikely as the voyage in Peter Duck, though for different reasons. There's lots of bathing, playing at savages, painting themselves with mud and declarations of war. I can't remember whether there's one human sacrifice or two. I seem to recall a totem at least as fearsome as any belonging to the Eels. And finally, a figure very similar to "Daddy" in We Didn't Mean to Go To Sea comes in and performs a deus ex machina rescue in the very nick of time. There's probably loads more similarities, but it's years since I read it - I just picked it up and scanned the first two chapters for the quotes I gave earlier.

You may ask questions to which I will reply only "yes" or "no" - you can have 20 before I cry "belay there". Guesses will be awarded an "avast ye parrot's dropping" if incorrect, or a "slap-me-vitals, egad you're right sir!" if properly nailed to the mast. One yard of virtual ale will be awarded if guessed in the 1st round, a virtual pint if you succeed after only one further clue and a swift half thereafter. If I have to tell you the answer, I get to drink the Yard of Ale. (it will help wash down the shorts).
