Were folding boats used (and developed/improved) in WWII?

From books on Operation Rimau, they went ashore from a submarine to raid Singapore in a “folboat” which was like a kayak. I suppose folboat is short for folding boat?

Operation Rimau (1945) followed Operation Jaywick, but most participants were captured by the Japanese.

Re Swimming (or not), I suppose it was quite likely that most of the Hulabaloos could not swim, and could have drowned if not rescued by the Death & Glories when they hit the post and their floating boom box went down?
