Many thanks, Rob. I did think that AR's view would not be quite so simple. The article Brogan refers to was in the 1906 Edition of 'Temple Bar', a literary magazine. In the same Edition, there was an article by John Masefield on 'Sea Songs' from which AR derived info about sea shanties (this is according to the Lit Pages on the old AR Website). The 1906 Edition of 'Temple Bar' was probably the last one, which AR was paid £50 to edit (acc. to Brogan), so maybe he sneaked in his own article. Evidently, the 1906 'Temple Bar' is useful thing to have, but who has one I know not. The Brotherton Collection? As far as I know, this Collection has yet to be fully catalogued - oh how nice it would be to have an online catalogue, but I dare say there are other priorities at Leeds U. Do any of the TARS Lit people have any further info on all this?
