I have just realised the ambiguity of the above definition.
A barque (a sailing vessel with three or more masts that is fore
and aft rigged on the mizzen mast) is not a ship even if it
has three or more square-rigged masts. So here is my definition.

A sea-going vessel sailing vessel is said to be a 'ship' if it has
three or more masts, and all masts carry a square rig.
