I think it has been mentioned in the back annals of TarBoard that Ganges at Shotley was a training establishment for boys to become ratings. Dartmouth was the training establishment for cadets to become officers.
In those days, Dartmouth would have been regarded as the more prestigious posting.
Ganges was closed in 1976 whilst Dartmouth continues.
