The hardback 23rd* impression of 1962 (Jonathan Cape, London) contains the errors.Note: The type was reset by Cape (London) for the 31st impression of August 1958 (as you indicate).(* I must have a mistake here. I don't have the hardback to hand: am reading from my jottings! Cannot be the 23rd impression.)The 'Red Fox' paperback edition of 1993 (the pagination is different) does NOT have the errors. Thus you are probably correct that Cape's proofreading is non-existent. The type reset was probably hacked in by a typist (stenograher) and not proof read.It would be interesting to know whether the latest impression of the U.K. hardback edition contains the errors.
