I found the answer to Geraint's question at www.collectorcafe. In 1987 began what has become the worlds biggest on-going community arts project, the making of the AIDS Memorial Quilt. The purpose of this hand-made quilt is to remember the death of friends, family, co-workers and lovers who have died from AIDS-related illness. As a by product, the biggest patchwork quilt in history has been created. Each panel of the quilt is 3’ by 6’, the size of a human grave, and has been created by both individuals and people working in groups. Sadly, with no cure for HIV in sight, the quilt is still growing and at most recent count it comprised 42,960 panels, marking the names if 83279 victims of the virus. For those with an interest in matters statistical, this represents almost 49 miles of fabric with a combined weight of around 50 tons.

So instead we will have to go for the record for the world's longest handmade Chinese dragon. After all, even Nancy got involved in sewing in ML. The current world record for the longest Chinese Festival Dragon is 1.89 miles, set at the Great Wall Of China in February 2000. So that shouldn't be too hard to beat.

Roll on Harry Potter Day! Do you think people got as excited as this about the publication of GN?
