Two points about your table, Nancy was certainly authoritarian but was Peggy? And was Nancy that way because she had no father and to an extent had taken over the role of father in the family(Captain Flint not always being present and the supportive uncle type rather than any consistent authoritarian figure)?
And, was the Swallow family's wealth earned or did Ted and Mary have an inherited income? Ted may well have come from a family where despite wealth it was a tradition for sons to go into the Navy. The English royal family follows that to this day with sons expected to go, at least briefly, into some branch of the services.
Re; the boats - as visitors to the area, it would have been most unlikely for the Swallows to bring their own boat so maybe AR presented that as a practical measure rather than in studied opposition to the Amazons.
