As for the "run down house" where do you get that from? I thought Mrs B was busy having it decorated in PP

Yes, because it was run down !

Bob Blackett was local? Who says?

Can't deal with this one so easily. I was somehow convinced of this, but I have to admit the evidence is meagre. All I can go on is that old Mrs Swainson says, about the Swallows, ‘They don’t look to me like Blacketts, nor yet like Turners’. This implies that Mrs Swainson has some knowledge of Peggy’s ancestors. She could, I suppose, be just going on what she knows of the Amazons and Mrs B’s appearance, but I feel she is judging more widely. And ‘Blackett’ is a Lake District name. I think there are better clues somewhere, but I have done so much ‘AR speed-read’ lately that I can’t face any more . . . It is strange how we seem to know so much about the Turners and so little about the Blacketts.
