Pam - many thanks. I do feel that AR had a way of 'manipulating' time in a very realistic way. We are always vaguely conscious that the school holidays are not never-ending and that an end will come, but at the same time AR makes full use of the length of the day in late July/early August at that latitude.
Although we have been a bit concerned lately on TarBoard about the social status of AR's characters, I believe that AR intended to give us a rather different message about the various 'native' families and individuals that we meet in the stories. I will say no more now, as I have submitted an article about this to Mixed Moss (a TARS publication), so I am hoping it will appear this Autumn (or this Fall :-)
