I've seen Canadian loons in Ontario in July with no sign of any chicks, maybe still in the nest? By August they have usually got one or two swimming around with the parents. Also there is speculation albeit fanciful about the GNDs getting behind on their migration and settling for the Hebrides instead of the Icelandic nesting grounds. So it could be a little later in the year. Say right in the middle of the summer term about June? (Half term holidays anyone?)! Though in June it doesn't really get very dark at night in the Hebrides.
