I couldn't find any good pictures of the brick lining of Sapperton Tunnel on the T&SC, but these pictures of Blisworth Tunnel on the Grand Union Canal show exactly what I do mean. For the industrial archaeologists on TarBoard the accompanying article on the trials and tribulations (including two false starts) of the builders of Blisworth Tunnel is a must.

I had hoped that my mention of the children's book inspired by the building of Sapperton Tunnel might have prompted some memories.

While on the subject of children's books featuring canal tunnels, I wonder whether any TarBoarders have read John Verney's wonderful Friday's Tunnel and its sequel February's Road?
