The Nancy method appears fairly similar to that in my 1937 Admiralty manual of seamanship. Which involved one flag, it appears that a dot consists of waving the flag over ones head whereas for a dash one moves it so it points down. The elements of a letter should follow in quick succession with teh flag not resting at the ready angle in between (which is in front of the left shoulder at about 25 degrees to the vertical
