Not as far as I can see but the new site is still evolving. It is useful still to be able to access the old one.
Thanks to MikeD, I have investigated my new Epson scanner (which my adult(?) children insisted I buy to copy their slides) and have found that it does have Abbyy OCR software bundled in and it works with Vista.
I now have a MS word document containing the text. Ian E-N has pointed me towards TARS. However with the TARS site still growing and being evolved by busy people, if anyone wants to contact me off group I will consider sending a copy to them for private interest and research.
