It's not the 70 years I object to, it's the having to comply with EU regulations - see further Grumpy Young Joy below. As it happens, I would prefer 50 years - that seems long enough, and it is what the UK Copyright etc Act 1988 originally specified.

Maybe not, but copyright can't last for ever, Mike, whether it's 50 years or 70 years - if it's going to happen it will happen. That's the one consolation for oldies like me - I won't be around to see it :-)
