Sorry, John, but that doesn't really help me. Why is the Channel not 'blue water'? In mid-Channel, you can't see either coast, and there are no 'muddy waters of the river mouths'. And at what point does the Channel's 'grey water' or 'dirty old mucky water' become 'blue water'? Surely someone has a precise definition?
