We're getting away from AR but I don't think E-boats (motor torpedo boats) went as far as the North Atlantic. U-boats, certainly.

Being in a petrol tanker wasn't necessarily terminal. San Demetrio with a cargo of aviation fuel was set on fire, but subsequently re-boarded by the crew of one boat commanded by a junior officer and brought safely home.

Going back to lightships, one of the Goodwin lights and the Varne - off Folkestone - were sunk by air attack during the Battle of Britain.
