[First - a tip for Britt - it's best not to post to a thread which is several months old, because your post will only be apparent to those TarBoarders who use the 'Most Recent Messages' page, and even then it can take an age to locate the relevant thread and posting (well it took me an age anyway). Far better to start a new thread - you will get maximum exposure!]

Peter H originally advised us of its [TARS archive] existence.

Yes I did, and I got my knuckles gently rapped! The reason why the TARS Archive page was suddenly passworded was explained to me, and I found the explanation entirely reasonable and convincing. I am not going to attempt to repeat the explanation, as it is highly technical and I would probably get a detail wrong, and be vulnerable to swoops by the TarBoard IT hawks. Basically, the Archive had to be removed, for good reason, from its former server. Pending the 'migration' (I think that is the word) of the content of the Archive pages to the new TARS Website, the pages were put in temporary storage on another server. The unauthorised disclosure of the temporary URL prompted 'traffic' and this caused problems on that server. Hence the denial of access. Please do not ask me any questions about this - I can't answer them. I am a simple railwayman, and the temporary situation seemed to me rather like the notice which used to be found near the facility which we can't mention - Please do not use while train is in the station.

I assume that the lifting of the restriction means that the problem has been resolved, but I will try and find out more. Perhaps the train is now moving . . .
