Visiting the Lake District

Hi everyone. I'm going to be visiting England at the end of the year (December-February) and will definitely be making a trip to the Lake District. I'd be grateful if someone could give me some ideas about where an Arthur Ranomse fan should stay and places to visit. Is there any sort of Arthur Ransome museum in the area ? Also, has anyone done any cycle touring in the area or would this be a bad idea at that time of the year ?
