I can't really remember the recipe components of bun loaf, but I do remember that the fluid should be cold tea. I remember an aunt (in Lancashire) making bun loaf and it was the first time I saw strained cold tea being used as a cooking ingredient.
Tea was always made in a brown earthenware pot in those days.
I think you can replace water with cold tea in a number of recipes.

To bring this topic more on track, I suppose Susan always made tea in a pot (presumably a metal one for camping) although we know that the Billies made tea directly in the kettle.
