Wow! Those words immediately brought the Simon & Garfunkel song to mind--one of our favorites as teenagers at summer camp--the deep emotions, the sadness of true love....we thought we understood it all!
I didn't know until today that the words came from an old verse about the cuckoos' habits--very interesting to learn that--thanks, everyone! I went looking for the music, because I still think it is a very pretty tune, and here is a video on YouTube of Art Garfunkel singing it in Central Park:
