a very tough choice - Christina is more "chatty" and personal, and covers both the Lakes and the Broads; Roger includes some terrific photographs.

I don't know Christina's book, but I have Roger Wardale's 'In Search of Swallows and Amazons' and it's a source of great pleasure. The pictures are indeed terrific (including Roger W's own 'Hollywoods') but the text is also evocative and richly informative.

In the end, the only good advice is as Mike says; demand both. Pleading isn't strong enough.
