I have never seen the Lippencott PD, but I got WH via interlibrary loan
last fall and scanned the maps and illustrations. The maps have an interesting
note and small self portrait that says, Helene Carter, cartographer to AR.
The illustrations are also Carter's. Since WH was the third or fourth AR book
for me, Carter's illustrations contributed to my sense of the characters as sort
of undetermined age, since she pictures them as not quite children and not quite
young adults. And since I was in between the character's ages when I first
encountered them, I still have the odd feeling when re-reading that Nancy and John
are older than I!

I would be glad to forward some of the maps and illustration scans to you if
you'd like. Nancy arriving at the north pole is my all time favorite illustration
of all the books and artists, followed by another Carter drawing from Coot Club.
