The thing is Kathryn, with the sort of small GPS receiver that is now
widely available, if you are familiar with the positions of various
hazards such as the Hen and Chicken etc, or "useful" locations like
the Harbour on Wild Cat Island, you can store their locations in
the receiver.
Then at any time later you can take your current location and
will immediately be given the answer as to range and direction to
the hazard, or any other point of interest that you have previously
stored in the receiver.
As other commentators have said, the basic GPS accuracy may not
yet be acceptable for the safe night sailing on the Lake.
Subsequent Jon's previous comment about night vision equipment,
I have now seen some of this for sale here in the UK, at prices
that some may be willing to pay.
Does anyone know if this equipment is easily "blinded" by
conventional lighting?
