I was a avid birder (the right sort) by the time I read it,

Thank goodness for someone else that liked GN, I too was really into bird
watching.
Together with a friend, another great AR fan, we spent hours at various lakes and shores looking for a Great Northern(common Loon),as we lived in southern England we did not have much luck, but did see several black and red throated ones, including a red that had been shot, bringing home the story graphically.

CC was a great favorite, for the same reason, in fact AR was a great influence to me in getting interested in something I have never forgotten.

His stories of course as has been said are all fiction, but the apparent reality of the ones set in the UK to a child was a great thing.
