I have all the Godine books and that is how I realized that Tars even existed.

Actually, if one really wants to be somewhat techical, all the stories are "made up". Some are more seemingly fictional than others. All, I found, were/are extremely enjoyable adventures. Of course, I take after the more preposterous adventures, Missee Lee and Peter Duck. Great Northern was, to me who read it very soon after initial publication (my school library had all twelve books), more possible to actually to have been done than Missee Lee and Peter Duck; but still, I have a feeling that Ed is close to being correct in that it is a "made up" adventure. But as the Sage always said, "If everyone liked the same things and agreed on everything, it would be very dull world!"

Just returned to Icey Kansas from a month in Sunny (humid) Southern Florida (didn't even get into the heated pool or on the sailboat - next time - ) and am catching up on the wonderfully exciting musings of Tarboard -----
