Proposed New S&A Film

The response here to the news of a new film version seems quite muted, particularly as it generated lengthy pieces in the serious UK press including a supportive editorial in The Times. The latter, to me, gives more support than most of the things the mere contributors here could do!
I also worry that we will get bogged down here once again with arguments about casting and interpretation. Obviously these matters should be taken seriously, but we all have our mental pictures of the characters and could never hope that a film could represent then all. One encouraging comment from the would be producers is that they will set the film in the 1930s, as I and others have argued before on this forum the books are the recording of a moment in time and should be kept that way.

The only depressing thing is that some newspapers reported that plans for a musical version at the National Theatre are still going ahead; can't anyone put a stop to such a pointless exercise?
