Where are Pilot's Cottage and Witch's Cottage in relation to the quay itself?
...And is the "closed" part of Quay Lane that part north of Vista Avenue?
Hh'mmm.... Thanks, both. I think. But are truly definitive answers too much to ask for?
Sorry Mike, I didn't intend to be cryptic.
The quay itself is the hard standing on the west side of the tidal creek.
Quay House, a former granary, is built on the quay itself. A similar
arrangement exists at Beaumont. Pilot's Cottage is about 70 yards to
the south of Quay House. Thatched Cottage (Witch's Cottage) is about
120 yards further to the south on the east side of the salt water lagoon.
I may be wrong (it's ages since I've been there) but I don't think that
there's actually a gate across Quay Lane until you reach the 'modern'
fence around the foreshore around Quay Cottage. I believe that the public
right of way up Quay lane exists as far as the vehicle turning area and
footbridge about 20 yards to the south of Pilot's Cottage. It would be
useful to have this confirmed by ACB or MD.
I hope that answers two out of three parts of your question.
