Perhaps the translation is incorrect. I assume there must be similar cereals with Dutch names. Why would the translator use the brand name "Sanovite", which is clearly a sort of cracker, unless s/he didn't originally understand that "Force" was a flake cereal?

But that's not how translation works - the translator would use the name Sanovite because it would effect the same sort of recognition and familiarity in Dutch minds as would the name Force in the minds of English readers, whether it be a similar product or not.

A translation cannot in such a case be "incorrect" - it depends whether the translator translates (making the book accessible to Dutch readers by translating or omitting English cultural references) or transfers (using the English cultural setting, only occasionally using extra explanations within the text or in foot-notes).

The successful translator will, as in this case, use mostly the second method with a little of the first thrown in where necessary.
