I don't think "Golden Syrup" is a brand name. It is easy to buy golden syrup in any supermarket in Australia which is not made by Lyle.
AFAIK, "golden syrup" is the name for a semi refined sugar syrup which is taken from the normal sugar production process at a suitable stage. "treacle" is a less refined form of the same syrup, and "molasses" is the least refined of them all.
