I've mentioned pig's trotters in aspic before as a distant East European
relative of the pork pie. Popular in Russia, Poland and parts of Germany,
the dish is often consumed before or during the drinking of strong spirits.
It would certainly have been known to, and most likely eaten by, AR.

We've had links to pork pie recipes. But I don't think anyone has published
a link to a pig's trotter in aspic recipe before now.
